ChatGPT is just a little over two years old. OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, is working toward artificial super itelligence otherwise known as Artificial General Intelligence or AGI.
Sam Altman, in his 1/5/2025 post, reflected on the history of OpenAI and its future. He sees the future of AI as AI agents and sees them having a big role to play in 2025:
“We are now confident we know how to build AGI as we have traditionally understood it. We believe that, in 2025, we may see the first AI agents “join the workforce” and materially change the output of companies. We continue to believe that iteratively putting great tools in the hands of people leads to great, broadly-distributed outcomes.”

But even more importantly, as he states in the opening line above, they are now confident they can build AGI and are working toward that as their primary goal.
